Designed landscapes imply landscapes altered by man. In Nunavut the landscape is vast and beyond our communities would be described by many people as untouched or barren. As a significant cultural landscape, the arctic landscape, and it resources, are intertwined with Inuit culture. Many people would describe the natural environment as a critical component of the way they understand their place in the world. This landscape has shaped the culture, and in turn the culture respects and uses the landscape with care.
The images in this portfolio reflect works by landscape architects that are recognizable human interactions through design, as well as places in our territory that have more subtle human interventions such as protection from development, use for temporary shelter, and use for sustainable harvesting.
